A great night was had by all at the recent charity event Bramham Ball raising funds for some amazing local causes. The crowd were unbelievable, dancing long into the wee small hours. The night also featured some other fab entertainment including mind-boggling magic and there was even a local celebrity (see if you can spot them!). We had such a ball that we’ll be back to do it all again next year, so get your dancing shoes ready and we’ll see you there.
With thanks to everyone involved in putting on such a great event, and to Pixrich Photography who captured the evening perfectly.
“We booked Func on the Rocks for Bramham Ball this July, raising funds for local charities. They surpassed all expectations and were one of the major reasons why the Ball was so successful. Their unbounded energy and enthusiasm and their ability to keep the dance floor full and buzzing all night meant we had no hesitation in booking them immediately for next year’s Ball. One of our guests booked them soon afterwards for a Birthday party and we can’t wait to hear them again. Great guys, great musicians, great choice of songs = a great night enjoyed by all!” - Nick Hall, Bramham Ball 2013
We love a good first dance, and you can’t get better than a happy couple putting their absolute all into it. This lovely bride and groom rocked the dancefloor from start to finish to one of our all time favourite songs, and an ever popular choice – Florence & The Machine’s turn on You’ve Got The Love. They have very kindly shared some beautiful photos with us from their big day at Wood Hall Hotel & Spa, Wetherby.
“The band were OUTSTANDING so so AMAZING!!
How can we ever thank them enough!!
Everyone loved them the dance floor was full constantly.
The first dance gave me goose bumps.
It was truly fantastic!!! Hope they had a good time too?
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts we really appreciate all you did for us.
Love Helen and Phil x” - Bride & Groom
Huge thanks to Helen and Phil, we wish you all the best for the future x

We’re delighted to share with you a great video from last year’s James Bond 007 themed charity ball for Bethany’s Smile, a local charity fronted by an inspirational young lady raising money for sick children.
We know so much hard work went into putting the event together, and it was all worth it because they raised an amazing amount of money for children with life threatening and life limiting illnesses. Click here to find out more about the story of Bethany’s Smile.
Keep up the great work, we hope to be back there again next year!
Wedding season is well and truly in full swing! It’s been such a busy few weeks already we felt it was about time to take a second to stop and reminisce.
So this July has been a hot one so far. We’ve been up and down the length of the country and the sun has continued to shine. We’ve discovered that it’s never too early for ice cream and never too hot to dance the night away, even in a huge white dress. Today, being some welcome temporary light relief from the sweltering temperatures of late. We’d like it straight back to tropical again tomorrow please in time for this week’s excited couples!
With thanks to Christodoulou Photography.
… a great photographer makes.
We don’t often share the blog love with other kinds of businesses, but when we come across a real gem we just have to. For all our brides and grooms from the south, it is our pleasure to introduce to you – Richard Skins, Dorset Wedding Photographer. Enjoy!

“I would just like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Func On the Rocks and Annie their manager. What an Amazing session performed at my daughters wedding. From the onset Annie answered my questions via email promptly. The song lists for us to choose our tunes for the evening were extensive – fab selection, it took us ages whittling it down to our final choice – each song was performed brilliantly I must add! Even the request for my husband to join the band on bass for one number was accommodated and he loved it !! All our guests had a fantastic evening and the floor was filled from start to finish with our youngest guest age 2 up to my dad age 89!!! The staff at the venue all commented that they had never heard such a fantastic band play at Delbury. The only disappointment was that it was all over far too soon I only hope that I get the opportunity to hear you play again in the not too distant future “

The star of the show at a recent wedding this month was undoubtedly our honorary bass player, in the form of the blushing bride’s step-father Jon.
A musician himself from the bygone era of the 80’s, Jon just loves playing guitar and drums and still plays local charity gigs with friends. Both he and the very proud Mother of the Bride couldn’t wait to surprise the happy couple by Jon’s unexpected appearance on stage with us laying down a ‘phat’ groove on the bass to ‘Play That Funky Music’, which of course he did.
Here’s a little snippet of the stunning bride and groom, Danika and Gary’s reaction to their Func On The Rocks experience…
“Hi Guys!! Myself and Gary Shaw just wanted to tell you how AMAZING!!! You are all so talented, everyone said they could not sit down all night!! The extra saxophone really did just set every song off!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU you helped make our wedding day so special!!!! xxx”
- Danika Charlotte Shaw
They have also very kindly allowed us to share the special moment of their beautiful first dance with you. Enjoy!
There’s no better feeling than knowing you’ve put an extra big smile on the faces of a happy bride and groom by topping off their special day with a party to remember.
We still get choked up every time we’re given the opportunity to perform a first dance. Then we love to crank up the tempo and get your guests up and dancing the night away.
For some inspiration for your first dance take a look at some of our most popular choices here.
Special thanks to Mr & Mrs Brown x
Just like your children, you shouldn’t have a favourite. But how can we fail to put this wedding up there with the best of the bunch? With memories flooding back via some stunning images from the super-talented Paul Joseph Photography we’d like to share one of our top weddings from 2012 with you.
A huge congratulations again to the happy couple David and Amy-Jean and another big thank you to them for choosing us to share their special day at Broughton Hall Utopia. The crowd were amazing, and kicking off the party with a Tina Turner classic Proud Mary, we couldn’t have wished for a better reception. We wish you all the very best for the future x
“A rather large portion of our guest list was made up of professional musicians and West End musical theatre performers. So, trying to find a band that could make an impression on such a crowd was always going to be a challenge. After trawling through endless sound clips on the internet, we had not found a band that even came close. Then one click later, the voice of Cherie Gears somehow managed to fill the room, even through the tiny speakers of our laptop. The next day, we had our band booked.
And what a band! This is a band that’s so good they had the dance floor full on their sound check! Turns out we had nothing to worry about, every one of our guests loved the music and they were not shy in telling us so.
You guys really did over-deliver and we couldn’t recommend you highly enough. Cannot wait for the opportunity to book you guys again! - David & Amy-Jean“
A massive congratulations to Nicola and all involved for such a hugely successful Charity Ball last weekend to raise money for FSID. It was an honour to have been a part of it. http://www.alexanderscharityball.co.uk
The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths is the UK’s leading baby charity aiming to prevent unexpected deaths in infancy and promote infant health.
Performing alongside a great selection of entertainment including Magician Mark Waddington and Grosvenor Fun Casino was an absolute pleasure.
In total the event raised a staggering £16,000 in memory of the tragic loss of Nicola’s son Alexander.

“I wanted to say a Massive Thank You to you all for Saturday night. The band were AMAZING and I don’t think I’ve seen a dance floor fill up so quickly ever! My guests loved the whole thing and the band certainly made an impression on them.
I had hoped for target of £15,000 for this year but we’ve exceeded that with £16029 which is overwhelming and I Thank You for being a part of it.
- Nicola Richardson
We look forward to the same time next year!
