Happy Birthday to our favourite Father of the Bride Brian, who celebrated his 80th Birthday last week.
It is so lovely for us to see some familiar faces at an event and last week’s celebrations were made extra special as Func On The Rocks were the birthday surprise!
We first met the gorgeous Bride, Jenny at her wedding in August 2017. The happy couple got married in the North East of England, at The Coach House on the Middleton Lodge Estate. This particular wedding stood out to us for many reasons; the champagne wedding cake, their perfect choice for their first dance – Anita Baker’s Sweet Love and of course our favourite Father of the Bride, Brian who never left the dance floor and became our biggest fan.
As Brian loved the live music so much, the family decided to hire our wedding band again as a surprise for their Dad’s 80th Birthday party at their beautiful home in Redcar.
Our lead vocalists and sisters Melody Reed and Cherie Gears were featured on the front of Brian’s Birthday card. A photo of the girls and Brian strutting a selfie, which was taken at his daughter’s wedding, had been a little hint of what was to come later that day.
Having just welcomed our singer Cherie back to our musical family after the world’s shortest maternity leave (she’s such a trooper!) this was the perfect gig to get her back into the heart of what she loves doing most.
The Birthday celebrations with close friends, family and dogs, were already well underway when we arrived at the venue, so it wasn’t long before the live music began and added an extra special touch to the party vibes.
The garden marquee was the ideal location for everyone to let their hair down and have a good boogie! The family advised us on what kind of music our Birthday Boy likes, so we tailored our repertoire to ensure all the guests could fill the dancefloor with their signature moves.
We were told that Brian used to be in a band, and although no one could remember the name of the group, it was clear that music plays a big part in all of the family’s lives and memories.
During the second set of live music, we managed to encourage our Birthday Boy to get up and join us to perform a special song; ‘I just called to say I love you’ by Stevie Wonder, which Brian sang out like a true rock star!
It was the perfect way to finish off the live music and get all his loved ones around him.
Thank you so much to this very special family for letting us join in the fun at another one of their momentous occasions, we hope to see you all again soon, maybe Brian’s 90th?
