Some gigs are unforgettable for the scale of the event. Others are unforgettable because of the people involved. Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of performing at a celebration that was incredibly close to our hearts – the 40th birthday party of our wonderful lead singer, Cherie.
What a night it was.

Aside from being an unbelievably talented singer and songwriter, Cherie just so happens to be part of one of the most musical families you could ever hope to meet. The evening was filled with love, laughter, music and dancing, with family members stepping up to the microphone throughout the night to create a truly magical atmosphere.
A Family Full of Music
Cherie’s three sisters are all phenomenal vocalists – each with their own unique style.
Harmony, the eldest, absolutely commands the stage with her huge personality and powerful musical theatre–style vocals. She joined Cherie for one of the most entertaining moments of the night – a brilliantly over-the-top performance of the Tribute by Tenacious D that had the entire room laughing and cheering.

Next up was Melody, whose powerhouse rock vocals filled the room. She brought serious energy to the stage with big rock classics including Enter Sandman by Metallica and Here I Go Again by Whitesnake.

Then there’s Marina, who is making her own mark as a solo songwriter. Her beautiful piano-led original songs, including Grow Old with You, brought a stunning and emotional moment to the evening.

It quickly became clear that musical talent runs deep in this family.
When the Whole Family Joins In
As the night continued, more and more family members joined the fun. Nephews, uncles, brothers-in-law – even Cherie’s young sons – stepped up to the stage without a hint of stage fright.

Seeing multiple generations sharing the microphone, supporting each other and celebrating together created one of those rare moments that reminded us exactly why live music is so special.
It was joyful, spontaneous, and completely unforgettable.

A Throwback to the LazyBaby Days
One of the most anticipated moments of the night came when Cherie got her birthday wish – to relive some amazing musical memories from the early days.
Many years ago, when we were all (quite a bit) younger and fresh out of Leeds College of Music, we formed an original band called LazyBaby.

Back then we were writing and performing our own music, even releasing a single called Good Girl through a record label.
Those songs hold a very special place in Cherie’s heart, so she wanted nothing more than to bring them back for one night only.
While the original LazyBaby guitarist Sam has since relocated abroad, our incredible lead guitarist Jake stepped up to the challenge. He learnt the songs especially for the night so we could recreate those moments and make Cherie’s birthday celebration truly unforgettable.

And when those first chords rang out, the memories came flooding back.

Finishing the Night with FUNC ON THE ROCKS 🎶
Of course, the night wouldn’t have been complete without a couple of numbers from our FUNC ON THE ROCKS party set. The amazing Georgina Barr took the lead to bring the celebrations home in style, kicking things off with one of our all-time favourites – Never Too Much by Luther Vandross. It was the perfect way to round off an unforgettable evening, with everyone back on the dance floor celebrating Cherie, her incredible family, and a lifetime of music still to come. 🎶💃🕺

A Night We’ll Never Forget
From emotional originals to huge rock anthems and nostalgic throwbacks, the entire evening perfectly reflected Cherie herself – passionate, joyful, and completely devoted to music.
Seeing friends and family celebrating together, sharing the stage, and creating such a special atmosphere reminded us how powerful music can be when it brings people together.
Cherie, thank you for letting us be part of such an incredible milestone birthday. We’re so proud to share the stage with you every week, but this night was something truly special.
Here’s to the next 40 years of music. 🎶
