Massive congratulations to everyone who took part and supported Tour De Yorkshire 2017 which took place in Tadcaster this weekend.
On route to our gig we were uplifted by West Yorkshire’s community spirit.
The streets were decorated with an array of colourful bunting, balloons and smiling faces. Yorkshire definitely knows how to celebrate!
And speaking of celebrations; Saturday was also significant as we got to bring out to play our big sister party band; Pure Mojo for the wedding of Matt & Nat.
Our ten piece wedding band Pure Mojo is led by three incredible vocalists Cherie Gears, Melody Reed and Sam Hendrix who are illuminated by the addition of a steaming horn section (saxophone, trumpet and trombone) – this combination takes Func On The Rocks to the next level!
The Bride and Groom Matt & Nat had planned their fairytale wedding to the very last detail and their wedding venue choice of Hornington Manor was the perfect setting for their perfect day.
Mr & Mrs Round love live music and were glued to the dance floor all night long with the amazing moves of the bridesmaids, groomsmen and fabulous family and friends.
The wedding guests sang their hearts out to each song, showed off their signature moves and together made the wedding reception extra special for the happy couple.
A big shout out to Hornington Manor who are an exceptional wedding venue. Thank you for being so easy to work with and accommodating we hope to be back soon for some more live music fun!
If you and your partner have been racking your brains to come up with that perfect first dance choice but just can’t quite decide… To give you a bit of inspiration we’ve recently been uploading some of our past first dance rehearsals on Facebook every #firstdancefriday.
This week we’ve put together our top 5 faves as a little recap and we hope you’ll be tuning in to see the next installments over the coming weeks. Find us on Facebook here.
So we’ve waved goodbye to another amazing year with countless miles travelled and countless smiles encountered. Thank you to each and every person that has been involved and supported us over the past year. We wouldn’t be here without you. Here’s to 2016 as the journey continues!
Today we’re revisiting another of our absolute favourite weddings from this year, celebrating the marriage of the lovely Mr & Mrs Ellis at Rudding Park Hotel, Spa & Golf. We’ve got a great little video to show you courtesy of Richard at Magic Moments Photo & Video which captures the mood perfectly and shows what a great crowd they were and how all of their family and friends made such a special evening for the bride and groom. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did being a part of it! Clap along…
“I can’t thank you and the band enough for last night. They were absolutely brilliant and I couldn’t have asked for more.
Our first dance was amazing and exactly what I had hoped for. It was brilliant how everyone rushed on to the dance floor as it picked up to full speed. I am so glad we went for “Happy” and trusted you to create an arrangement for us!
So many people last night were telling me how brilliant the band were and how great Cherie’s voice is, and I have had so many more positive comments today. I always wanted our guests to fill the dance floor and it was full all night thanks to you guys. It was just what I had hoped for!
Thank you too for all of your organisation and help along the planning process – you were always so accommodating and responsive and that was really brilliant.

We’re so excited to share with you a short snippet from our wedding of the year, celebrating two of our nearest and dearest tying the knot! What a beautiful day it was, the sun was shining bright on the hottest day on record in November as Stephanie & Aden married at The Old Barn in Esholt and it was our pleasure to have performed their first dance to Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud. We’re also delighted to share with you the amazing impromptu performance of Love is in the Air (which we’d never played before!) at the end of the night by Father of the Bride, Mike dusting off his microphone skills from the good old days when he was in a band much like Func On The Rocks.
We’re delighted to share with you a few special moments captured at one of our favourite weddings of last year. Celebrating the marriage of a member of our extended Func On The Rocks family circle on her beautiful day at the Carriage Hall, Nottinghamshire. Congratulations again to the lovely Laura and Brad!
The first dance was of course especially moving, and we all know what a huge disney fan our beloved lead singer is. So we could certainly feel the love that night with the band’s rendition of the Elton John/Tim Rice classic from the Lion King.
“Thank you so much for playing at our wedding 🙂 You helped to make our day so special.
We were initially worried that people wouldn’t dance but you guys got everyone up dancing all night until they kicked us out! Everyone said how good the live sets were and also the choice of dj music too.
Thank you so much for learning our first dance song even though it involved blending two versions of the song together, it was so perfect and we loved it 🙂
Special thanks to Steve for managing the task of being a guest and performing at our wedding.
The venue and many of our guests were so impressed they have requested your details for future weddings!
Lots of love Brad and Laura Thompson-Stevens” – Bride & Groom
To top the night off, the guests (and us!) enjoyed our time to shine in the photobooth. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of such an awesome night guys x
We love a good first dance, and you can’t get better than a happy couple putting their absolute all into it. This lovely bride and groom rocked the dancefloor from start to finish to one of our all time favourite songs, and an ever popular choice – Florence & The Machine’s turn on You’ve Got The Love. They have very kindly shared some beautiful photos with us from their big day at Wood Hall Hotel & Spa, Wetherby.
“The band were OUTSTANDING so so AMAZING!!
How can we ever thank them enough!!
Everyone loved them the dance floor was full constantly.
The first dance gave me goose bumps.
It was truly fantastic!!! Hope they had a good time too?
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts we really appreciate all you did for us.
Love Helen and Phil x” – Bride & Groom
Huge thanks to Helen and Phil, we wish you all the best for the future x
We don’t often share the blog love with other kinds of businesses, but when we come across a real gem we just have to. For all our brides and grooms from the south, it is our pleasure to introduce to you – Richard Skins, Dorset Wedding Photographer. Enjoy!
Huge congratulations again and thanks to Danika, Gary and the lovely mother-of-the-bride for allowing us to be a part of such a beautiful wedding and then share these shots with you. All the best for the future x
The star of the show at a recent wedding this month was undoubtedly our honorary bass player, in the form of the blushing bride’s step-father Jon.
A musician himself from the bygone era of the 80’s, Jon just loves playing guitar and drums and still plays local charity gigs with friends. Both he and the very proud Mother of the Bride couldn’t wait to surprise the happy couple by Jon’s unexpected appearance on stage with us laying down a ‘phat’ groove on the bass to ‘Play That Funky Music’, which of course he did.
Here’s a little snippet of the stunning bride and groom, Danika and Gary’s reaction to their Func On The Rocks experience…
“Hi Guys!! Myself and Gary Shaw just wanted to tell you how AMAZING!!! You are all so talented, everyone said they could not sit down all night!! The extra saxophone really did just set every song off!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU you helped make our wedding day so special!!!! xxx” – Danika Charlotte Shaw
They have also very kindly allowed us to share the special moment of their beautiful first dance with you. Enjoy!
